What is the Paleo Autoimmune Protocol?

You have been researched the paleo diet and have come across the paleo autoimmune protocol. Or like me, you didn’t learn about the paleo autoimmune protocol until, you tried the paleo diet, to heal your body, thought it was working and figured out a little over a month into it that it had stopped working for you and wondered why?

If you are looking to start the paleo diet to heal an autoimmune condition. You need to be aware that there is a completely different protocol, for people that have autoimmune disorders. If you start on the regular paleo diet you are most likely to end up, like me. I started, had a month full of really great healing, felt wonderful! I thought that everything was great, then my immune system crashed!

I had researched the paleo diet, but hadn’t come across anything about the autoimmune protocol. That is until, my immune system crash, which spurred my additional research on paleo and autoimmune conditions. I should mention, also that I had known that I had a thyroid condition (hypothyroid) that I had long since suspected had been undiagnosed Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. I am absolutely positive now that I do have the autoimmune form of hypothyroidism! I don’t understand why else, my immune system crashed so hard on the regular paleo diet. The only other thing that I can think of that I have been diagnosed with that is even slightly autoimmune based is my arthritis.

The paleo autoimmune protocol is quite similar to the regular paleo diet, except it is a little bit more restrictive. You must eliminate all seeds, nuts, non-nutritive sugars, nightshade vegetables and of course all grains just as the paleo diet calls for. One of the things that makes it more difficult to follow is that you cannot eat eggs of any form. This makes baking and breakfast a little more difficult, then that of the paleo diet. I have started on the paleo autoimmune protocol, I will keep you updated of my progress and will be posting recipes that are autoimmune safe to my website.
